I don’t blog very often mostly because I’m just constantly reading new and I never feel the need to share news because I feel everyone has access to the same things I do they should be able to read it themselves. There are times when I see something that’s so flawed that I want to talk/share my ideas about it. That thing is the Apple App Store Approval Process.

We all know, or should know, what the Apple App store is so I won’t get into explaining that. With the recent HUGE #AppleFail its approval process has been brought back into the spotlight. There is a strange disconnect between what Apple says it will approve and what they actually wind up approving. Apple needs to revamp this process and revamp it quickly.

My idea is this. Apple has the biggest group of the hardest core fans. Why don’t they make the first step of app approval a social experience. Bring in digg/reddit style voting, apps that move up the list the fastest or seem the coolest get a final review, also by volunteers, and get pushed into the store. You can tweak this idea as well. Instead of the voting method you could just get volunteers (I am sure you’d have no problem doing this) who would sign NDA’s and they would review and approve apps possibly pushing some to a peer group for a final review before getting pushed to the store. Since no one really knows what’s involved in the current process I am not even sure if this is any different that what takes place today. I just know this. The process needs to change and change quickly.

-Dave

I’ve read alot of reviews on the DiNovo Mini but none really pertained to OSX because of its unsupportedness from Logitech. I did find alot of people who said it worked so I decided to buy it anyway. I have a 2.0 C2D MacBook hooked up to my 60″ Sony KDSR60XBR1 Television. This is the main reason I wanted to get this mostly for casual browsing and for Plex navigation. My final verdect, IT WORKS AWESOME! Was simple to pair via bluetooth, click to discover devices, hit the big red connect on the bottom of the DiNovo Mini enter in some numbers, and we’re paired! The Keyboard Setup Assistant comes up asking you to choose keys and now you’re ready! Click to read the rest!!

As you can see to the left all the keys map fine to most OSX functions, the volume keys work, the nice OSX OSD comes up to raise, lower and mute. The other specialty keys work as well, play/pause and the track selection worked without issue.

I really enjoyed the mouse and it almost works like an iPod wheel, you sweep to move the mouse around and as you play with it more it gets easier, there is a click when you push on the pad or you can use the OK button on the opposite side as a left click. The FN buttons don’t all work, the only one that does was the FN+power which brought up the usually shut down/restart/suspend box. All in all this is an awesome keyboard for an HTPC environment. Blackberry users will love it because they are used to the “Thumb” typing and can do it rather quickly. I wouldn’t compose a novel with it but for quick casual browsing or instant messaging it’s awesome and fits in the living room with almost zero footprint.

Feel free to ask any questions in the comments!

Eventually being so super secretive will hurt Apple. With all the iPhone rumors running rampant its getting to the point where people fear buying any Apple product because they are going to update it tomorrow or the next day. I know this has been a long standing tradition with Apple but now that they are in the cell phone market. The leaky-est market known to man. They need to take a different approach. Read on…
It seems like every day there is a new post on a price drop or another reason not to get an iPhone. Hell yesterday I ordered a 16GB iPhone (after going to both local Orlando Mac Store only to be told they are sold out) but these rumors got to me as I am sure they got to many others. So while my iPhone is still on its way to me, I’ve already have the return label ready to send it back(also sucks you can’t return apple.com purchases at apple stores). Its a constant battle with yourself to know if you’ve gotten the latest and greatest of if you’ve just wasted $500. At this point I am not considered an “early adopter” like the original iPhone purchasers were so if they dropped the price again would it even matter, would I get a refund/gift card? Everyone is confused, hell when forbes starts to quote TUAW you know something is up. Apple needs to be a little less secretive now that there are alot more eyes on what they are doing.

Soon after I upgraded to Leopard I also switch Mail.app to use IMAP. I had been using Entourage but I wanted to check out the new Mail.app features. I had not noticed at first but when using Mail.app to reply to a message the drafts would get saved to the server, so when you looked at the thread in gmail, it would be this long thread with mutiple half assed messages. I thought I sent the person I was responding to 12 e-mails. Turns out this is not the case, the final one gets sent when you click send. It just seems to muck up the web interface, you can read the thread about it on google groups. You can fix it by going into mail prefs and turning off saving drafts on server.
